Cosplay: Joy – Inside Out: The Making of

 Kun näin Inside Outin viime lokakuussa minulle iski halu cossata jotakin siitä. Myöhemmin puhuin tästä *Rosalle* ja päätimme toteuttaa Joyn ja Sadnessin, tai suomalaisittain Ilon ja Surun *Frostbiteen*. Mietin pitkään viitsinkö ostaa ihomaalin Joyta varten ja lopulta päädyin ostamaan sen vasta samana perjantaina kuin Frosti alkoi. Halusin tehdä cossin lopulta kunnolla vähintään tämän kerran, kun olin kuitenkin käyttänyt aikaa sen muihin osiin. Joy on järjestyksessään kymmenes cossini ja kuvia cossista enemmän löytyy *täällä*.

When I saw Inside Out last October I was tempted to cosplay something from it. Later I talked to *Rosa* about this and we decided to do Joy and Sadness for *Desucon Frostbite*. I thought a long time if I should buy skin paint for Joy and finally decided to buy it on the same Friday that Frostbite started. I wanted to do this cosplay properly at least once, because I had put effort to the other parts of it. Joy is my tenth cosplay ever and pictures of this cosplay can be found *here.*

Lopputulos/The result

Yksi syy miksi Joyn tekeminen oli lopulta helppo valinta oli se, että minulla oli jo peruukki valmiina häntä varten. Olin ostanut sen aiemmin Desuconin kirppispöydiltä, kun sen sai halvalla. Kun tajusin tämän eräänä iltana, minun oli pakko testata peruukin tomivuutta ja päädyin muokkamaan sitä, kunnes kello lähenteli kahta aamuyöllä.

One reason that I decided to do Joy was that I already had a wig for her. I had bought it from Desucon last time as it was cheap. When i realized this on one evening, I had to test out if the wig works and ended up modifying it until it was two in the morning.

Edellinen omistaja oli leikellyt peruukin suhteellisen lyhyeksi, joten varsinkin ostahiusten muokkaaminen osoittautui haastavaksi. Sain se kuitenkin kiinnitettyä lopulta karmealla kasalla muotovaahtoa ja lakkaa. Töyhtö oli toinen ongelma, koska en ollut tehnyt sellaista aikaisemmin. Peruukissa oli kuitenkin edellisen omistajan jäljiltä ahoge, jonka avulla sekin oli lopulta yllättävän helppo saada pysymään pystyssä. Naureskelen edelleen sille, että Joy on ensimmäinen töyhtön omaava hahmo, jota cossaan ja tietenkin se on sitten länsimaisesta lähteestä. Viimeistelyssä lisäsin peruukkiin askasteluglitteriä, jotta siihen saisi lisää elokuvassa näkyvää hohdetta.

The previous owner had cut the wig a little bit too short, so modifying the bangs was a challenge. I made it work with a hideous amount of hair products. The ahoge was an another problem because I had never done one before. The previous owner had a little ahoge in the wig previously, so it was surprisingly easy to hold it up in the end. I am still laughing at the fact that Joy is the fist character I've cosplayed that has an ahoge of some kind and she is from a western franchise. I also added glitter to the wig, so it would be more shiny like in the movie.

Töyhdön tekemistä 

Joy toi myös kaipaamaani haastetta cosplayn puolelle, kun ryhdyin ompelemaan mekkoa. Mekon tekemisessä oli haastavinta saada se istumaan kunnolla vyötärön kahdalta, sillä en ollut aiemmin tehnyt mekkoa kahdesta eri osasta. Lopulta ompelin selkään ylimääräisen sauman, jotta mekko näyttäisi paremmalta. Myöhemmin onnistuin tuhrimaan mekkoa kukkakuvioita maalatessani ja totesin, että olisin muutenkin voinut olla huolellisempi sitä tehdessä, sillä minulla oli kuitenkin paljon aikaa. Viimeistelyä tein myös valkoisella kangastussilla, kun halusin saada valkoisesta viivakuvioinnista näkyvämmän. Olinhan kuluttanut sen ompelemiseen aikaa tunteja.

Joy was also the challenge I needed in cosplay, as I started sewing the dress. The hardest part of that was to make it fitting around the waist as I had never done a dress from two pieces before. In the end I had to sew an extra seam to the back so it would look alright. Later while painting the flowers in I managed to smudge the dress and I thought I could have been more careful while making it, because I had a lot of time. I made finishing touches with a white fabric pen, when I wanted the lines to stand out more. I had been sewing them on for hours previously.

Muistopallo syntyi styroksipallosta. Itseasiassa samanlaisesta pallosta, joita käytin Namin Clima Tactiin. Hiomisen jälkeen se sai päällysteeksi keltaisen maalin ja lakkakerroksen. Koska pallon kummassakin päässä on reikä, sinne sai sisään pienen valon, joka on tarkoitettu koiran kaulapantaan tms. kiinnitettäväksi. Valo ei kuitenkaan päivällä näkynyt oikeastaan mihinkään, mutta kiva lisä se oli silti.

The memory ball was made out of a Styrofoam ball. The same kind that I used for Nami's Clima Tact. After whetting it I painted it yellow and finished it with a layer of varnish. Because the ball had small holes on either side of it, I put a small light inside of it. The light is normally used when walking dogs in the dark. In the end the light couldn't really be seen in the daylight but it was fun to have.

Etsin pitkään keltaisia sukkahousuja kaupoissa kierrellen, mutta päädyin lopulta ostamaan ne ebaysta, mikä tuli lopulta varmasti yksikertaisimmaksi ja halvimmaksi vaihtoehdoksi. Mietin tosiaan pitkään ihomaalaamista tai sen pois jättämistä ja testasinkin erilaisia meikkivaihtoehtoja sen tilalle. Päädyin kuitenkin maalaamaan ja olen onnellinen päätöksestäni, vaikka siihen menikin lauantaiaamuna paljon aikaa ja maalia löytyy vieläkin käsien alta. Joyta oli mukavaa tehdä, kun mekko oli isoin osuus cossia varten, mutta se haastoi sopivasti. Näin Joyn tehtyäni ja edelleen Frostin jälkipärinöissä olen miettinyt, että haluaisin toteuttaa jotain vaikeampaa cossia seuraavaksi. No, tulevaisuus näyttäköön. I spent loads of time looking for the yellow tights, but decided to order from ebay in the end. It probably was the best solution and definetily the cheapest. I wondered about leaving the skin paint off and even tested a few make up choices for Joy. In he end I'm happy that I decided to do it, although it took a long time and I can still find paint under my arms. Joys was enjoyable to make, because the dress was the biggest thing to make for it and it was challenging. I would want to make something more challenging next as I'm still hyped from Joy and Frosbite, but we'll see. Thank's for all the praises we got for our cosplays!
