The Making of Arya Stark

No niin, vihdoinkin sain valmiiksi Arya Stark cosplayn. Oli jo aikakin, sillä cosvision on jo tänä viikonloppuna.

Okay, I'm finally ready with my cosplay to Cosvision this weekend. I will cosplay as Arya Stark from Game of Thrones.

Cosplayni on siis Arya Game of Thronesista. Aryalla on tämä sama puku ollut jo kakkoskauden alusta lähtien pienillä muutoksilla ja nyt ollaan neloskaudessa. Ensin ajatelin ottaa tehtäväkseni jonkun Aryan ykköskauden puvuista, mutta ajattelin, että tässä puvussa on ainakin haastetta. Pääti myös tehdä Aryan miekan, Neulan, joka ei oikeastaan ole ollut Aryan mukana sitten kakkoskauden alun (ja spoiler! viimeisimmissä jaksoissa 4. kaudella), mutta halusin kuitenkin tehdä nimenomaan sen. Neula oli samalla toinen proppi, jonka olen cosplayta varten tehnyt. Miekan ja hiukkasen lyhyemmän peruukkini takia cossini vastaa eniten kakkoskauden alun Aryaa.

Arya has been wearing this same outfit with minor changes since the start of season 2, and now is season 4. First I was planning to do one of Arya's outfits from season 1, but then I thought, at least I have some challenge now. I also decided to do Arya's sword, Needle, which really hasn't been with her since season two (Spoiler! And the most newer episodes season 4) but I still wanted to do it. Needle is the second prop I've ever made for cosplay. With the sword and a little bit shorter wig, my cosplay is closest to the Arya from the beginning of season 2.

Erityisen hankalan puvusta teki nimenomaan tuo asepaidaksi ristimäni ruskea päällyspaita. Minulla kesti kauan miettiä miten sen teen, lopulta löysin hyvän kankaan siihen. Paita on siis tehty ruskean kankaan suikaleista, jotka on punottu yhteen mustalla vahatulla puuvillanyörillä. Nyöriä löysin ihan sinellistä, ja sitä meni lopulta paitaan lähes 30m, Kyllä 30 metriä. Suikaleiden ompeluun ja punomiseen meni tuhottomasti aikaa, mutta ainakin olen onnellinen lopputuloksesta.

Especially tricky in this cosplay was making the brown shirt I call armourshirt. It took me a long time to figure out how I would make it, but finally I found a good fabric for it. The shirt is made out of strips of the brown fabric, which are braided together with the black waxed cotton twine. Well, the twining took about 30 meters of the twine, yeah, 30 m. Sewing the strips and braiding took a hell of a lot of time, at least I'm happy with the outcome.

 Aluspadan ompelin myös alusta asti itse, se oli jopa toinen paita jonka olen koskaan tehnyt krhm... Ja onnistui siinä suhteessa yllättävän hyvin. Housut on muokattu kirpparilöydöstä, ja käsittelin niitä aika rajusti saksilla ja hiomapaperilla kuluisuuden aikaan saamiseksi. Kengät minulta löytyivät jo. Niihin vaihdoin nauhat ja maalasin mustalla kangasmaalilla kuluneisuuden jälkiä.

I also sewed the undershirt myself, it was the second shirt I've ever made and surprisingly it turned out pretty well. The pants are modified from ones I found from a flea market. I ripped and cut them and whet them to make them look worn. The shoes I already owned, I changed the laces and painted with black fabric paint to make them look worn too.

Miekka oli se mihin tarvitsin eniten apua tämän cossin tekemisessä. Iskä auttoi minua sirkkelöimällä vaneria oikean muotoiseksi ja juottamalla käsisuojan, haitta sen oikea nimi kai on, muotoon,  ja kiinnittämällä sen muuten kokonaan vaneriseen miekkaan.  

The sword was the thing I needed most help with. My dad helped saw the plywood to the right shape and solder the hand cover and screwing it to the plywood.
